What is a skilled nursing resident?
Skilled nursing residents are people who live in skilled nursing facilities due to their physical and health condition(s).
Our Mission
Hands of Agape is a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to
enriching the lives of skilled nursing residents in California by showing God's love through the provision of goods, services, and resources. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for these residents, addressing their unique needs and fostering a sense of compassion and community.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
Skilled nursing facilities are a necessary part of our community. They house both short-term care and long-term care residents. Residents are people who live in skilled nursing facilities due to their physical and health condition(s).
There are approximately 80% of residents who are considered long-term care residents. This means that the skilled nursing facility is their home. With over 1,230 skilled nursing facilities in California, and a total population of over 97,000, that is a substantial amount of residents who live in skilled nursing facilities.
Residents rely on skilled nursing facilities for the following services: nursing care (IVs, injections, baths, etc.), physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medication administration, medical equipment and supplies, social services, dietary services, wound care, cardiac care, pulmonary care, post-stroke care, and much more.
Many residents experience limited social interaction and face various health challenges. Due to the care needs of residents, skilled nursing facilities are typically set up like a hospital floor and resident rooms are set up as a hospital room. Hands of Agape aims to provide residents with items and services that will help enrich their lives. We want to show them that they are loved and not forgotten.
Our Services
Hands of Agape aims to provide the following and are not limited to:
· Gifts and personal supplies for skilled nursing residents
· Financially assist with needed custom medical equipment and other necessities not covered by insurance, family, or self
· Take skilled nursing residents who are physically able and mentally able on outings outside of the facility via Hands of Agape company vehicles. Residents will be visiting parks, malls, zoos, festivals, and various other locations or activities outside of the skilled nursing facility
· Connect volunteers with skilled nursing residents to support their social, mental, and emotional well-being
